 하나님의 은혜는 때로는 사람을 당황하게 한다. 하나님의 은혜를 경험한 바울은 많은 이들을 당황시켰다. 하나님의 은혜를 경험한 이는 이전의 모습에서 변화하길 소망하게 된다. 그 은혜는 하나님의 계명을 더 선명하게 마음 판에 새기게 한다. 그래서 하나님의 뜻대로 살기를 소망하게 된다. 그러나 옛 모습은 그를 가만히 두지 않는다. 마귀는 옛 사람을 떠올리게 한다. 그러나 성령께서는 이러한 우리들의 보혜사로써 함께 계시며 우리를 변호하신다. 너는 이제 옛 사람이 아니라고 하나님의 자녀라고 지나간 너의 모습을 보는 눈을 거두고 의롭다 하신 주님을 바라보라고 나의 모습을 보면 실망과 탄식뿐이지만 이런 나의 모든 것을 사랑하신 하나님을 바라보면 새로운 소망으로 살아갈 수 있게 된다.

 God's grace sometimes takes us by surprise. Paul's experience of God's grace baffled many people. When you experience God's grace, you want to change from who you were before. It makes God's commandments clearer on the tablets of your heart. He desires to live according to God's will. But the old man does not leave him alone. The devil reminds him of the old man. But the Holy Spirit is with us as our Comforter and defends us. You are no longer the old man, you are a child of God, you have ceased to look at your former self and have begun to look at the Lord, who has justified you. If you look at your former self, you will only see disappointment and sorrow, but if you look at the God who has loved you, you will be able to live with new hope.
